Wrexham University Research Online is an online repository of research outputs of Wrexham University. You can contact the staff who manage the repository by email at repository@wrexham.ac.uk.

By using Wrexham University Research Online you agree to abide by UK copyright law and by the University’s policies. In short, these are:

Unless specific terms of use are indicated, these general terms of use apply: You may reproduce a single copy of an item for personal research or study, educational or non-profit purposes, provided full bibliographic details of the item are given and a link or URL is provided to the original metadata page. The content of items must not be changed in any way. You may not use any material made available via Wrexham University Research Online for any commercial purpose without the prior permission of the copyright holders.

Metadata Policy for information describing items in the repository

Anyone may access the metadata free of charge.

  1. The metadata may be re-used in any medium without prior permission for not-for-profit purposes provided:
  • the OAI Identifier or a link to the original metadata record are given
  • Wrexham University Research Online is mentioned
  • The metadata must not be re-used in any medium for commercial purposes without formal permission.
  • Data Policy for full-text and other full data items

    Anyone may access full items free of charge.

    1. Single copies of full items can be:
    • reproduced, displayed or performed, given to third parties, and stored in a database in any format or medium
    • for personal research or study, educational, or not-for-profit purposes without prior permission or charge.

    • the authors, title and full bibliographic details are given
    • a hyperlink and/or URL are given for the original metadata page
    • the content is not changed in any way
  • Full items must not be sold commercially in any format or medium without formal permission of the copyright holders.
  • Some full items are individually tagged with different rights permissions and conditions.
  • Mention of Wrexham University Research Online is appreciated but not mandatory.

    1. Wrexham University Research Online holds all types of materials.
    2. Deposited items may include:
    • accepted versions (author's final peer-reviewed drafts)
    • published versions (publisher-created files)
  • Items are individually tagged with:
    • their version type and date.
    • their peer-review status.
    • their publication status.
  • Principal Languages: English; Welsh
  • Submission Policy concerning depositors, quality & copyright

    1. Items may only be deposited by accredited members of the institution, or their delegated agents.
    2. Authors may only submit their own work for archiving.
    3. Eligible depositors must deposit bibliographic metadata for all their publications.
    4. Eligible depositors must deposit full texts of all their publications, although they may delay making them publicly visible to comply with publishers' embargos.
    5. The administrator only vets items for the eligibility of authors/depositors, relevance to the scope of Wrexham University Research Online, valid layout & format, and the exclusion of spam
    6. The validity and authenticity of the content of submissions is the sole responsibility of the depositor.
    7. Items can be deposited at any time, but will not be made publicly visible until any publishers' or funders' embargo period has expired.
    8. Any copyright violations are entirely the responsibility of the authors/depositors.
    9. If Wrexham University Research Online receives proof of copyright violation, the relevant item will be removed immediately.

    Preservation Policy

    1. Items will be retained indefinitely.
    2. Wrexham University Research Online will try to ensure continued readability and accessibility.
    • Items will be migrated to new file formats where necessary.
    • Where possible, software emulations will be provided to access un-migrated formats.
    • It may not be possible to guarantee the readability of some unusual file formats.
  • Wrexham University Research Online is working with external partners to:
    • convert or migrate file formats
    • develop and implement software emulations for old file formats
    • record preservation metadata
  • Wrexham University Research Online regularly backs up its files according to current best practice.
  • Items may not normally be removed from Wrexham University Research Online.
  • Acceptable reasons for withdrawal include:
    • Journal publishers' rules
    • Proven copyright violation or plagiarism
    • Legal requirements and proven violations
    • National Security
    • Falsified research
  • Withdrawn items are not deleted per se, but are removed from public view.
  • Withdrawn items' identifiers/URLs are retained indefinitely.
  • URLs will continue to point to 'tombstone' citations, to avoid broken links and to retain item histories, with:
    • a link to a replacement version, where available
    • a note explaining the reasons for withdrawal
  • Changes to deposited items are not permitted.
  • Errata and corrigenda lists may be included with the original record if required.
  • If necessary, an updated version may be deposited.
    • The earlier version may be withdrawn from public view.
    • The item's persistent URL will always link to the latest version.
  • In the event of Wrexham University Research Online being closed down, the database will be transferred to another appropriate archive.
  • Request for Withdrawal of an item

    If you feel that content in Wrexham University Research Online [WRO] infringes UK law, please notify WRO by sending an email to repository@wrexham.ac.uk including the URL of the record and the reason for the withdrawal request.

    1. Your complaint will be acknowledged and an initial assessment will be undertaken as soon as possible after WRO staff become aware of the complaint. We aim to acknowledge and assess the request within 10 working days of receipt.

    2. Where grounds for complaint are plausible, the material will be withdrawn from public view.

    3. It may be necessary for us to seek legal advice before the request can be fully resolved.

    4. If the request is well founded, the material will be permanently withdrawn from public view, although a metadata record will remain with a note explaining the reasons for withdrawal.
